Keep It Simple Stupid Scouts! Harsh but true. I find that when most people (myself included) way over pack when they start camping or backpacking. You learn through the years that you don’t need about 60% to 80% of what you think you need.
I give new scouts a basic gear list to get started, which means they could pack their gear in a small pack or duffel bag. This is never the case, imagine one of those things that you see on the roof of cars full of stuff but packed neatly. Packing to go home is always a different story. Most young scouts never think their gear is dirty enough, so it usually gets dragged down the trail. I watch and laugh knowing they will get better while convincing their parents their young scout will improve with each camp out.

Wait, you don’t have a coffee pot on the list!
Found my way over from Celebrating Women.
I know boys don’t bathe much, but don’t they need soap? For carving up if nothing else?
Yeah, darlin, I don’t see tequila anywhere on that list. Hence, why I don’t camp.
Welcome to the blogging world!
My mother used an entire can of pesticide (I think it was RAID) on what she thought was a bug on a wall in the screened in cabin thing we had for a Girl Scout Camping trip to the Galveston State Park one year.
It turned out to be a nail.
