Just One Hour A Week would like to hear about other Troops COH’s.
My son’s troop had a Court of Honor last night, the first one since he crossed over. He and two others who crossed over with him received their Scout Rank badges… well, sort of… they received acknowledgement, the actual badges aren’t in yet.
Here is part of his post, so click the link to read the rest.
Troop 483 has two COH’s a year (held on Monday night in place of the meeting), one in March and one in September, usually after Troop elections. The SPL and ASPL’s run the COH handing out merit badges and explaining each badge earned to each Scout, then recognizing the Scouts who earned their new rank or ranks ( we hand these out when they are earned) while having their Mother’s come up for the scouts to pin their ribbons with their Mother’s pin. This is always a Kodak moment.
The SPL will pick patrols for the flag ceremony’s and the Chaplins Aid will have a prayer. Our Commeette Chairman will usually give a State of the Troop Address. As Scoutmaster I always have a Scoutmaster Minute, recognizing awards the troop has earned, but sometimes I’m honored recognize adult leaders that have gone above and beyond, earned their Woodbadge Beads ( by presenting them with a State flag and certificate I had flown in their honor), or compleated a specific training. Afterwords we have a pot luck and celebrate the Scouts acclomishments.
As far as boys who earn Eagle we have a seperate Eagle COH to celebrate their individual accloshment where I also present them with a flag flown over the State Capitol. Our previous Scoutmaster has had a long tradition where he presents the Eagle Scout an American Eagle Silver Dollar to carry in his left pocket closest to his heart to remind him to continue to live by the Scout Oath and Law.
I’ll add not all COH’s are the same, some very good and some are ok. Remember we are a boy run Troop, and this is how these young men learn to be leaders by making mistakes and learning from them. Overall they do a good job, do their best and I haven’t seen a bad COH yet.
